and popular culture. Blurring the lines between high and low culture,
Iconoclast produces exhibitions, publications, artists’ editions
and more, that are not only intelligent and thought provoking, but
accessible to large audiences as well.
Iconoclast was founded by Christian Strike and Aaron Rose in 2002.
Since that time, Iconoclast has produced a multitude of exhibitions,

Christian Strike was the Founder, Publisher, Editor, and Creative Director
of Strength Magazine from 1995-2002. During that period, Strength was
one of the leading documents of skateboard culture with a particular focus
on art and a readership of over 150,000 each month. In 2001, Strike sold
Strength to Alloy, a publicly traded media and marketing services company.
During 2001 and 2002, Strike also acted as VP of Sales & Marketing
for CCS, a skateboarding/snowboarding mail order business with over 3.5
million customers, a third of the US market. He also was the Executive
Producer of the critically acclaimed album Strength Magazine Presents:
Subtext, a 1999 musical compilation of leading underground artists distributed
by Sire/Warner Brothers Records.
Aaron Rose is a 34 year-old artist, writer and independent curator currently
living in Los Angeles. For ten years (1992-2002) he worked as owner/director
of the highly influential Alleged Gallery in New York. The gallery was
responsible for breaking the careers of many visual artists who are now
considered the leading edge of contemporary art. The gallery acted as
both the incubator and hub of a network of prime movers within the street
cultural scene. Rose worked as a producer for MTV on-air promotions for
two years and produced short films for artists and filmmakers such as
Mark Gonzales, Rita Ackermann, Harmony Korine, Spike Jonze and Mike Mills.
Recently, Rose has been working as a freelance curator, organizing gallery
shows in America and Europe. Mr. Rose also authored the seminal book Dysfunctional:
The Visual Language of Skateboarding, published by Booth-Clibborn Editions
in 2000. |
